“Love Food, Love Box Hill”
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
This mural was developed as a response to a previously graffiti-covered roller door, transforming a neglected surface into a welcoming visual landmark for the Whitehorse community. Delivered in collaboration with Suburban Rail Loop(SRL) and Whitehorse City Council, the project reflects a shared vision of enhancing public space through art. The design introduces a field of soft, blooming daisies—symbols of openness, warmth, and everyday joy—layered in a gentle yet uplifting colour palette. These florals soften the urban texture of the site, creating a moment of pause within the streetscape. As pedestrians pass by, the mural offers a sense of calm, familiarity, and lightness—inviting both locals and visitors to feel a renewed connection to the space.
At its core, the artwork celebrates Box Hill’s rich and vibrant food culture—one that is deeply embedded in the daily rhythms of the community. The central figures, gathered around a shared table, reflect the universal act of coming together through food and drink. This scene draws from the lived experience of Box Hill: a place where diverse cultures intersect, where meals are shared across generations, and where food becomes a language of connection. The playful composition and approachable visual style ensure the mural resonates across all age groups, making it both accessible and inclusive.
As an artist, my practice centres on storytelling and community connection. This mural extends beyond aesthetics—it captures the essence of local life and honours the social rituals that define Box Hill. By transforming a once-overlooked surface into a narrative-driven artwork, the piece becomes a meeting point of identity, culture, and belonging—encouraging people not only to pass through, but to feel part of the story.
